About

You know you’re meant to do something in the world (maybe even something great!), but you’ve been depressed for so long that you can no longer entirely imagine what that might be. Maybe you’re feeling better now, but you still don’t have faith that you will find your purpose and your passion. That’s where I come in. I will help you to rebuild your life and find that purpose, and I will hold onto that faith until you are ready to reclaim it.

You don’t have to be wrestling with deep questions of your life purpose, either. If you are feeling at all stuck, unmotivated, or stagnant, I can give you a nudge to get you moving again. My coaching is rooted in the knowledge that each one of us has a quiet voice directing us towards our most fulfilling life. Unfortunately, that voice is frequently drowned out by our fears and doubts. I will ask you the powerful questions necessary to help you to hear that voice again and step forward into the best version of your life.

In my life, I’ve found that the key to overcoming depression is hope. Even when I was in my darkest depressions, I believed – no, knew deep in my heart – that my life was supposed to be more. That it was supposed to be, and thus would be, stronger, deeper, better, and richer. Sometimes that knowledge was very small and very quiet indeed, but it was always there. In the end, that titanium steel core of hope, that bone deep knowledge that the world could not be as hurtful as it currently felt, carried me through. Now, I want to offer that same certainty to you. Even if you can not feel it or see it right now, I know that you can create a life you will love.

I do want to be clear: I am not a therapist, and life coaching is not therapy. The help and support I can offer is different from that offered by a therapist, and if I believe that you would be better helped by a licensed mental health professional I will not hesitate to make that recommendation. Your wellness is my highest priority!

Why hire me, Joanna Weston?

Because I’ve been where you are. I spent most of my teens and twenties stuck in a swamp of depression and then trying to navigate the space between that and true wellness. For years, I watched my life from the outside, seemingly unable to fully engage in the beauty that I knew was around me. After years of wandering around like the proverbial starving child outside the bakery, I found my way out, and now I want to help you do the same thing. As a graduate of the Martha Beck life coach training program, I am equipped with bountiful tools to help you to build the life you long for.

Things you may not know about me
:

  • I am a geek. I adore Doctor Who, Star Trek, Neil Gaiman, Charles de Lint, and White Wolf role-playing games. I will never laugh at you for being weird, I promise!
  • I believe in magic. And I don’t mean the art of misdirection or pulling rabbits from hats. If you have an “unusual” experience or insight, I will not question it.
  • I care for a cat named Amber. You may hear her contributing to our phone calls, but I never take her advice.

Why 3 Speed Life Coaching?

I named my business after my favorite bicycle, a Raleigh Superbe that’s older than I am. I love that bike. It weighs a ton, doesn’t shift very well, has terrible brakes….. and I don’t care. That bike is the most comfortable bike I have ever encountered. It’s not optimized for speed or durability, but for enjoyment. Three speed bikes remind us of a slower time. Many people remember them from their childhood. Because they have such an upright seating position, they encourage you to look around at the scenery and your fellow riders. I believe that life should be like that. In my experience, it is more important to enjoy the ride, to take time to journey consciously, than it is to ignore our present comfort and happiness to get there (wherever “there” really is!) as fast as possible.
